DIALOGUE POINTS ON STOPPING ADD-ADHD-ODD-HYPERACTIVITY:

A DRUGLESS GUIDE TO OPTIMAL FAMILY HEALTH.

Dr. DeMaria, how long have you practiced natural, drugless health care?  Since 1978 long before the excitement of natural health care became popular.

What is your background?  Tell our listeners about yourself.  I have a bachelors degree in human biology, I utilize applied clinical nutrition in my postural correction. nervous system improving, subluxation based drugless chiropractic practice.  I have a fellowship in applied spinal biomechanical engineering, diplomat status in chiropractic orthopedics.  I teach post-graduate in the health, legal and insurance industry, I have spoken and instructed health care providers in Europe also.  I have been an instructor at Oberlin College , I have a clinical based research program on going at Drugless Healthcare Solutions.  I recently completed a three month program on stopping ADHD, ADD, ODD and hyperactivity.  I published the results in a chapter in my book that was recently published.

Wow! That’s a lot of stuff!  So what does drugless healthcare mean?  Why did you pursue the drugless approach to hyper kids?  Drugless healthcare really is staying and getting well without drugs.  We live in a medicine prescribed driven society.  People have little understanding on how the body works.  Even in our high-tech society, meds are BIG business. We have been programmed to take a pill, potion, or spray for immediate symptomatic relief.  What people don’t know, and are finally getting, is that these drugs have bad effects, often times the bad effects are worse than the condition that is being treated.  We continue to see chronic conditions that are getting worse in spite of new approaches.  Now the real problem is when our children are put on drugs, legally at 4-5-6-10 years old.   We are raising 5 million children as we speak, that take some type of behavioral modifying medication every day, in other words, we are telling our future generation, DRUGS NOT HUGS.  No one seems to know why we have behavioral problems, but I believe when you cut to the chase, the answer is there, but money drives the economy, the golden rule, who ever has the most gold rules.  The pharmaceutical companies, food manufacturers and politicians have too much to lose if the real cause of most of our ailments are discovered.

Dr. Bob, lets have it, what is going on?  Why do we have hyper kids?  Sick, depressed parents, and so much RAGE in America ?  The answer is obvious, but multifaceted, like a spiders web.  From my research, most, if not all, major health problems we have today, can be directly linked to the improper metabolism of fat.  This is an explosive, controversial, hotly debated subject.  Most health care providers have little understanding of the clinical application of far or they would not have let the low fat craze go on for so long.

What are some ADHD and Hyperactivity symptoms?

Inattention

  • pays little attention to details; makes careless mistakes
  • has short attention span
  • does not listen when spoken to directly
  • does not follow instructions; fails to finish tasks
  • has difficulty organizing tasks
  • avoids tasks that require sustained mental efforts
  • loses things
  • is easily distracted
  • is forgetful in daily activities

Hyperactivity, impulsivity

Hyperactivity:

  • fidgets; squirms in seat
  • leaves seat in classroom when remaining seated is expected
  • runs about or climbs excessively at inappropriate times
  • has difficulty playing quietly
  • acts as if “driven by a motor”
  • talks excessively

 Impulsivity:

  • blurts out answers before questions are completed

Why would you come up with the answer if your practice is focused on pain?  Good question. My patients are taught by me.  I have a weekly class on health, and my own t.v. program, my patients know they need fat, especially the Omega 3 fat or flax oil.  My patients take up to a tablespoon of organic flax oil daily per 100 pounds of body fat.  My next project to be released will be about winning the pain game.  90 million Americans are in pain.  They use aspirin for relief.  Aspirin interferes with fat metabolism, and compounds the problems.  Let’s get to the kids.

How did you correlate fat to emotional problems?  First, tell me about ADHD, ADD, ODD, and hyperactivity.  What is it?  Who has it?  Who should our listeners call to get on the station and listen?  First, they’re all the same with different degrees of severity.  Some of it is actually precipitated by social interaction once the physiology is broken down, then you have psychological complications.  Let me explain, our kids today eat processed, empty, toxic food.   Our brains need fat, without fat, the brain cannot function, nor communicate with the body.  So a child will be hyper or he will not pay attention.  You can then have a combination of all.  The complications start when you have these children being disciplined and they cannot control themselves, not always because of attention or manipulation of the environment.  They don’t have the ability to do it because their body is not communicating, because the brain and nerves don’t have the right fat to send messages.

So what is the problem?  The real problem!  We did not have the same problems in the 50’s, 60’s, and even 70’s.  The number one problem I see is trans fat, or hydrogenated fat.  Trans fat is a man made compound, hydrogen and heat are added to vegetable oil to make it appear as butter.  The initial research on heart disease suggested saturated fat from animals, elevated cholesterol, causing heart attacks.  Recent research suggests cholesterol may not be the problem, inflammation in the vessels may be the real cause.  Also trans fats in the body are actually saturated fats, and can be a part of the bad fat family.  These same fats also cause inflammation.   These trans fats stop the body from making good fat.

Do we need fat? This can be confusing!  It appears complicated, I believe to keep everyone frustrated and stay in denial, people are concerned about being fat.  The medical system moves slow accepting new information.  Let me give you some simple statements, then we will talk more about the travesty of ADHD etc.  To take away confusion:  We need fat in our body.  Our brain and every cell wall is made of fat.  Your body will make fat out of extra carbohydrates you eat.  There are basically 2 sources of fat, animal and plant. Eating too much of any one kind can cause an imbalance, even plant.  Your body has delicate feed back mechanisms.  We use to eat too much red meat, ( high saturated fat, solid at room temperatures).  Scientists knew plant oils were liquid at room temperature, heating them they thought was good, but in reality, this is a very important point, you should never ever eat man made, or man modified fat.  Your body can’t use it, just like the fake sugars.  You can’t fool Mother Nature.  Most fats consumed today are either man made or trans fats.  These are in all the snack foods, fast foods, etc.  We did not have this problem prior to WWII.  This is also a key point.  We do not eat enough of an essential fatty acid, which has to be consumed by the body, called Omega 3 fats.  There is also an essential fat called Omega 6, which we do eat enough of, safflower, sunflower, corn oil, etc.   Omega 3 fat needs to go through a series of steps to make a fat, called DHA, for brain and nervous system function.  This is the real problem today.  Are you Ready?  We do not have the building blocks and sabotage our body from making DHA, by eating sugar, which robs minerals needed for the process, trans fat, French fries, chips, snack foods, stop the process, not enough B vitamins, used up to process sugar, high insulin, from too much sugar, and not enough green food.  This will be real big, our research shows milk and dairy can sabotage the process. That’s right. All the white lipped advertisement is actually causing health problems.  A real big problem is the National School Lunch Program.  The government just released a report from the General Accounting Office (GAO), our lunch program has too much fat.

DO YOU GET IT?  Let’s light up the radio now with this next morsel of physiology.  Are you holding on?  Guess what the half life is for trans fat?  That is, the time it takes to have your body deal with the natural time it takes to literally process it.  Fifty-one days, that means a bale of fries, snack food, or chips you consume today with hydrogenated or trans fat, will be causing havoc with 25% of the damage yet to be dealt with in 102 days, or over 3 months. So Mom, Dad, babysitter, nanny, teacher, Grandma, Grandpa, a French fry at the local chain will give you fuel for behavioral problems for some time.

Dr. Bob, this is really BIG! And you did a study?  Yes, I took 25 non-patients that I recruited by announcements at schools, health food stores and patients.  I did not have existing patients with major ADHD problems, except 1 or 2.  We changed their diets, added a few supplements, and within 23 days 90% were better.  Also a point, the half life for good fat is 18 days.  I have all the details explained in my book.  The participants gave us tremendous feedback that we reported, so others could benefit.  We had them eliminate sugar, dairy, hydrogenated fats for 102 days.  We added vitamin B, B6, minerals, Flax and salmon oil, which is basically DHA.  But, you do not want anyone in the continental U.S.A. taking salmon daily unless they are monitored.  It can thin the blood too much.  The participants got better.

What about Ritalin?  Even a short time?  Well, this is my drugless observation-  HUGS NOT DRUGS- honestly, it was recently reported that kids who take Ritalin will try cocaine in high school.  Now if they have been taking a cocaine-like drug, which Ritalin is, since they were 10, what is the logical chance they can use cocaine or go on to other psychoneurotic drugs later on.  It was also reported recently in The Wall Street Journal, cocaine users miss more work and get more infections.  So it is logical to think unless some proactive measures are made to change diet, we are raising not only fat, pre-diabetic kids today, but a generation of legally dependant pre-drug heads.  Scary!  But we are in denial.

Damaging effects of Ritalin include:

  • Decreased blood flow to the brain, an effect recently shown to be caused by cocaine where it is associated with impaired thinking ability and memory loss
  • Disruption of growth hormone, leading to suppression of growth in the body and brain of a child
  • Permanent neurological tics, including Tourette’s Syndrome
  • Addiction and abuse, including withdrawal reactions on a daily basis
  • Psychosis (mania), depression, insomnia, agitation, and social withdrawal
  • Possible shrinkage (atrophy) or other permanent physical abnormalities in the brain
  • Worsening of the very symptoms the drug is suppose to improve, including hyperactivity and inattention
  • Decreased ability to learn
  •
  • Research is suppressed
  • Ritalin does not correct imbalances, it causes them
  • Faster to write a prescription
  • Teachers are being misled by marketing

Dr Bob, what does conventional medicine say about diet and brain health?  I had one pediatric neuro-psychologist say there is no association with diet and behavior.  What planet is he from?  What chance do they have considering drug representatives are relentlessly knocking at their doors.

Dr. Bob, can we tie it all together?  REPEAT vital points.

Dr. Bob, what an eye opening program.  Do you have any other health information in your research?  Yes, parasites were common in the participants, sources including day care, playgrounds and pets (cats).

We x-ray their spines.  I focused also on postural correction and spinal alignment.  The lateral curves in the necks were 10 degrees, normal is 45 degrees.  The participants enjoyed the spinal correction, giving them over all health enhancement.  One young man, who was taking six medications a day before the program, did not get his yearly pneumonia while on the program.

What was the hardest part of the program for the participants?  Changing their diets initially.  The did not have the book to follow with recipes and guides.  But, a very positive benefit was the taste of whole food and the quick, positive improvement in health with a near miraculous mental recovery.  One participant was excited for the noise to leave her head.

Dr. Bob, you obviously have done your homework.  Drugless care, any final comments?  Yes, take control of your family’s life.  Become pro-active, do not be manipulated, become active.  Read, make a few changes suggested.  One of my participants summed it up oh so well.  We decided to choose life.
